This Privacy Policy is provided by Altus IX ('we,' 'us,' or 'our'), the developer and operator of Markd.
Markd is a minimalist productivity and habit-tracking application. It enables users to build daily routines, track habit completions, log progress data, and visualize their history through detailed statistics and timelines. Features include local and cloud data backups via Google Drive, home screen widgets, and optional biometric app security.
This policy describes how and why we collect, store, use, and share your personal information when you use Markd, and explains your rights regarding that information.
By downloading, accessing, or using Markd, you agree to the practices described in this notice. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, please do not use the app. This policy is effective as of April 24, 2026.
Information you provide directly: We collect personal information you voluntarily provide when you contact us or use features of the app. This may include your email address and authentication data (such as details from Google Sign-In).
Application and device data: When you use Markd, we may automatically collect device information such as your device model, manufacturer, operating system version, unique device identifiers, and IP address. This information is used primarily for security, troubleshooting, and internal analytics.
Habit and usage data: Markd stores your habit names, check-in history, streaks, and preferences locally on your device. If you enable Cloud Backup (a Pro feature), this data is synced to your personal Google Drive account.
Push notifications: We may request permission to send push notifications for reminders and account-related updates. You can opt out at any time in your device settings.
Google API data: Our use of information received from Google APIs, including Google Drive for cloud backups, adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We access only the data necessary to provide the backup and sync feature.
We do not collect sensitive personal information such as racial or ethnic origins, religious beliefs, or financial data. We do not collect any information from third parties beyond what is described above.
We process your information to provide, improve, and administer Markd, to communicate with you about your account or subscription, for security and fraud prevention, and to comply with legal obligations.
Specific processing purposes include: facilitating account creation and authentication via Google Sign-In, delivering habit-tracking features and personalised reminders, processing Markd Pro subscription payments via RevenueCat and Google Play, and managing cloud data synchronisation via Google Drive.
We process your information only when we have a valid legal reason to do so, such as fulfilling our contractual obligations to you, complying with legal requirements, or on the basis of your consent.
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information only in the specific situations described below.
Service providers: We work with the following third-party services to operate Markd: RevenueCat (subscription and purchase management), Google Play Services (app distribution and payment processing), and Google Drive (optional cloud backup for Pro users). Each of these providers has their own privacy policy governing their handling of your data.
Legal obligations: We may disclose your information where required by law, court order, or government authority, or where necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Altus IX, our users, or others.
Business transfers: If Altus IX is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will provide notice before your information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
Markd offers the option to register and log in using Google Sign-In. When you choose this option, we receive certain profile information from Google, which may include your name and email address.
We use this information only for account creation, authentication, and the purposes described in this Privacy Policy. We do not control, and are not responsible for, how Google uses your information independently. We recommend reviewing Google's Privacy Policy to understand their data practices.
Altus IX is based in Mumbai, India. Our operations and servers are primarily located in India. However, our third-party service providers (such as RevenueCat and Google) may store and process your data in other countries.
Regardless of where your data is processed, we take all reasonable measures to protect your personal information in accordance with this Privacy Policy and applicable data protection laws.
We retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.
Habit data is stored locally on your device and remains there until you delete the app or use the 'Wipe All Data' option in Settings. If you use Cloud Backup, your data remains in your personal Google Drive until you delete it manually.
When we have no ongoing legitimate business need to process your information, we will delete or anonymise it. If immediate deletion is not possible (for example, data stored in backup archives), we will securely isolate it from further processing until deletion is possible.
We have implemented appropriate technical and organisational security measures designed to protect your personal information. These include secure data transmission protocols and access controls.
However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee that unauthorised third parties will never be able to defeat our security measures. Transmission of personal information to and from the app is at your own risk, and you should only access Markd within a secure environment.
Markd is not directed at children under 18 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.
By using Markd, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old, or that you are the parent or legal guardian of a minor using the app and consent to their use of the Services.
If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a user under 18 without appropriate consent, we will promptly delete that information. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such data, please contact us immediately at [email protected].
Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information: the right to access the personal data we hold about you, the right to request correction of inaccurate data, the right to request deletion of your data, and the right to withdraw consent for processing at any time.
You can exercise several of these rights directly within Markd: use 'Export Data (CSV)' in Settings to access your data, or 'Wipe All Data' to delete all locally stored information.
To exercise any other rights, or if you have questions about your data, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond in accordance with applicable data protection laws.
Withdrawing your consent does not affect the lawfulness of any processing carried out before the withdrawal.
Some mobile operating systems and applications include a Do-Not-Track ('DNT') feature that allows you to signal your preference not to have your activity tracked.
At this stage, no uniform technology standard for recognising and implementing DNT signals has been established. As such, we do not currently respond to DNT signals. If a standard is adopted in the future that we are required to follow, we will update this Privacy Policy accordingly.
Yes, we will update this Privacy Policy from time to time to remain compliant with relevant laws or to reflect changes in our practices.
The 'Last updated' date at the top of this policy will always reflect when the most recent changes were made. If we make material changes, we will notify you either through a prominent notice within the app or by direct notification.
We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically. Continued use of Markd after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
If you have questions, concerns, or comments about this Privacy Policy or our data practices, you can reach us by email at [email protected].
